Dimethyl carbonate Market share- How big is the Dimethyl carbonate market?

China and Germany are the leading exporters of dimethyl carbonate, accounting for a substantial share of global supply, while the United States, South Korea, and India represent the largest importers. Dimethyl carbonate prices have remained relatively stable amid steady cross-border flows, reflecting consistent demand from lithium-ion battery electrolyte and polycarbonate production sectors. Exports from China have expanded moderately over the past two years, while European exports—particularly from Germany—have held steady, and U.S. imports have increased slightly, aligning with domestic growth in advanced materials manufacturing.

About Dimethyl carbonate

Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is a clear, colorless, volatile liquid with a faint, sweet odor and a boiling point of 90 °C. It is classified as an aliphatic organic carbonate and functions primarily as a versatile, non-toxic methylating and carbonylating agent. Industrially, DMC serves as a key intermediate in the synthesis of polycarbonates—particularly via melt transesterification with bisphenol A—and is employed in the production of lithium-ion battery electrolytes, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and specialty polymers. Its applications span high-performance coatings, electronic chemicals, and green solvent systems, where it replaces more hazardous reagents such as phosgene or methyl halides.

It is colorless liquid with a pungent odor. It is insoluble in water and soluble in alcohol, ether and other organic solvents.

This chemical is included in Fine Chemicals. See more about what is Dimethyl carbonate and Dimethyl carbonate SDS information.
