Starch Market share- How big is the Starch market?

In 2023–2024, the United States, Germany, and France were the leading exporters of starch (CAS 9005-25-8), collectively accounting for over 40% of global exports by value; major importers included Mexico, Japan, and the Netherlands, reflecting strong demand in food processing and industrial applications. Starch prices have remained relatively stable amid steady export volumes from top producers, though modest growth in imports by Southeast Asian countries signals expanding regional industrial usage.

About Starch

Starch is a white to off-white, odorless, granular solid at room temperature, insoluble in cold water and organic solvents, with no defined melting point due to thermal decomposition above 200 °C. It is a natural polysaccharide composed of repeating units of glucose, classified as a biopolymer and carbohydrate. Starch serves as a key raw material for the production of glucose syrups, dextrose, maltodextrins, and high-fructose corn syrup via enzymatic or acid hydrolysis, and is widely used as a binder, thickener, stabilizer, and film-former. Its primary application areas include food manufacturing, paper and corrugated board production, textile sizing, pharmaceutical tablet excipients, and biodegradable packaging materials.
